Mercy Flight Unveils Brand New Addition To Their Fleet
Mercy Flight added a brand new piece of equipment to their fleet today and it was in honor of someone who died in a training accident.
What is Mercy Flight?
The website for Mercy Flight describes their organization as "an independent, not-for-profit provider of emergency and non-emergency air and ground medical transport and supporting services; ensuring rapid, safe and cost effective delivery of expert response teams."
If you've lived in Western New York for any period of time, you've probably seen them flying overhead.
What did they add today?
They dedicated the helicopter to Jim Sauer
The new piece of equipment was dedicated to the memory of a man who lost his life during a training exercise last year. Jim Sauer was a retired Rochester and New York State Police Officer who was part of a training exercise in a Belt 429 helicopter. Mid-flight, the helicopter appeared to break apart and fell to the ground killing both Sauer and the flight instructor who was in the chopper with him.
Sauer had just begun his career with Mercy Flight in October of 2020.
