You may have done this back in elementary school -- you wrote a letter in one of your classes to yourself about the future. Dale Caldwell taught 7 year olds and asked them to write a letter to themselves about ordinary things: what they wanted to be, who their best friend is, what their favorite movie is, something about their parents. Caldwell then would hold onto the letters and mail them back to them when they were about to graduate high school.

When one high school student died at 17 years old, he didn't get to say much to his mom, due to a car accident death, but later, she got a shocking letter from her then-7-year-old son.
