Among the excitement of the Buffalo Bills playoff win comes a new alert from leaders in the City of Buffalo.

The winter is pushing on and the cold winds are about to cross over the Great Lakes which are open and primed for lake effect snow to develop.

How prepared are you for the snow? Even though we have already had multiple feet of snow this season in some areas, others have enjoyed just a dusting at times.

The fact that we live so close to Lake Erie and Lake Ontario is both a blessing and a curse. The lake helps keep us comfy in the summer and the lake also delivers a headache in the winter when the snowstorms form.

This week, officials are watching the weather as a new round of warnings have been posted. Here in Buffalo, there is also a "BuffAlert".

Yes, this is Buffalo. Yes, it snows often. However, after recent storms over the last few years, including a fatal blizzard, officials in the Western New York area are not taking any chances and are getting ahead of any potential dangers.

The biggest issue in these storms is the blowing and drifting snow. My advice? Stay home if you can when the conditions are truly bad. However, if you get caught in storm, just take it slow and steady and consistent. The drivers that I have seen get stuck seem to either go way too fast or, in some cases, just stop in the middle of the road or intersection! If you are not confident in your ability, don't try to risk the drive.

The Buffalo Bills will be back home this Sunday to play the Baltimore Ravens. The snow should be done falling before the weekend. However, it may be a situation in which the stadium needs some snow removal IF the forecast is correct and the snow bands creep in to Orchard Park.
