There seems to be some confusion for residents in East Aurora, New York as their new Waste Management garbage and recycling totes start to arrive. The East Aurora Police have made a statement in an effort to clear up some things and keep everyone on the same schedule.

The Village of East Aurora is the most charming in the Southtowns! It has grown in popularity over the last decade or so and is a great place to raise a family! It is one of the most "walkable" in all of New York State. Just about anything you could want/need is within a short walk from the house for those who live in the Village of East Aurora.

But like many towns and villages, East Aurora has it's share of internal issues. The latest of which seem to be the new 96 gallon garbage totes that are being delivered.

I grew up in East Aurora and remember seeing the garbage truck make it's rounds and we would offer the workers some ice cold water! It was neat summer routine that I have never forgotten. I still can recall hearing the clink of the metal garbage cans that my dad used when they hit the ground after being emptied and we would walk them back to the garage.

Fast forward 40 years and things are much different. With the evolution of totes and trucks, collection is much more efficient and I assume, less expensive for towns and villages. That being said, there are plenty of places in Western New York that still rely on good old fashioned man power to collect the trash!

A Message From East Aurora Police

The new totes are arriving and residents seem unsure, and in some case, surprised to be getting them. As a result, there is a need to update the plan as is spelled out below.

"EA Village residents: New Waste Management totes are being delivered to you. Please do not use them until Oct 6 or your refuse will not be picked up. The new totes are mandatory for WM to pick up your refuse and recycling".

If you have not gotten one yet, keep an eye out for delivery soon.
