New York State Airports Get Massive Renovations
Airports in New York State have really gotten some massive improvements done this year.
In New York City, officials have been working on the JFK airport in order to modernize it. They spent 19 billion dollars on terminal 6 as part of a $19B project by the Port Authority.
A tradition in major infrastructure works, the topping-out ceremony commemorated the tremendous efforts of construction professionals and the men and women of organized labor to maintain safe and on-time construction. Terminal 6 is scheduled to open in phases, beginning with the completion of the arrivals and departures hall and the first five gates in 2026. The second phase, including five additional gates, will open in 2028, completing the terminal. Terminal 6 construction is creating 4,000 jobs, including 1,800 union jobs in construction", according to Governor Hochul's website.
In addition to JFK, on the other side of the State, the Buffalo Niagara International Airport also just completed a massive project. The runway 5-23 at the Buffalo Airport was completely redone by the end of September.
United UA6064 from Washington Dulles International Airport was the first aircraft to land on Runway 5, receiving a water cannon salute from the Buffalo Niagara International Airport Fire Department upon entering the gate area.
It was a nightmare for people who live by the Buffalo Niagara International Airport. The Buffalo Airport is unique in that the airport is basically surrounded by neighborhoods, so the noise was a major complaint by people when the flight patterns were changed. The Buffalo Airport will start on the next phase of changes in 2025.
