Christmas will be here before we know it and the State of New York is already starting to plan for their annual display! There are reports that New York State is looking for someone to donate their tree that will be used as the center piece for the holiday display at the Capital Building in Albany.

Think you have the tree that would be perfect? You'll need to let New York State know right away so they can plan for the removal and shipping of the tree. If your land is closer to the Capital Building, that would be best. However, it is possible that what you have is too good to pass up no matter where you are.

What is ideal? According to a report, "The tree should be a spruce between 35 and 55 feet tall, easily accessible on the property, and clear of power lines. Proximity to the Capital Region is ideal. The tree will be removed for free in mid-November". If you think yours is the tree that would be the best, send an email to Kevin.Ciampi@ogs.ny.gov.

What is the most common type of pine tree in New York State? That appears to be the Eastern White Pine and the tallest was found in the Adirondacks. "The tallest tree on record in New York State is an Eastern White Pine.... is 160.4 feet tall".

But for the Capital Christmas tree, it is preferred that it is a spruce.
