The Arctic blast that has pounded New York State is getting closer to the end! The warmer days are coming this weekend as we expect the temperatures to reach the 40 degree mark. It will be nice to just get above freezing!

But not everyone is looking forward to the warmer air. In fact, there are some who want it to stick around a few more weeks.

But regardless if you embrace the cold and snow, or love the spring weather, a deadline is looming here in New York State.

This may have been the best ice fishing season we have seen in a few years! If you drive past a local lake or pond, there is a good chance that you saw a few ice fishing huts or shanties? Ice fishing is very popular here in New York State and has it's own set of regulations.

For those who are using a shanty or ice fishing hut, they need to be marked property and they MUST BE REMOVED BY MARCH 15th!

"Ice shanties must be marked on the outside with the owner's name and address in letters at least 3 inches high. Shanties must be removed from all waters by March 15 to prevent them from falling through the ice and becoming hazards to navigation".

I love to fish and it is even more fun to bring the kids out for a relaxing day of fishing. However, I have yet to get on the ice and pull some perch out of the lake! This season is winding down. But it might be time to gear up and see what the buzz is about!
