The winter has officially arrived here in New York State and drivers across the state are warned not to make this mistake.
The good news? The days are about to get longer, gradually. As we move from the winter solstice (December 21), the sun stays out a minute or two longer every day. It is a grind until spring and summer. But there are some positives.
But during the long winter, the snow will be flying and in some areas, lake effect snow will be dropping feet of snow! Beware of this New York State Law.

When the snow starts to pile up here in New York State, there are some things to remember before you hit the road. Some are just common sense. For example, make sure your headlights are cleaned off and make sure you can see out of the windows in your car and mirrors are clear of snow and ice.
However, one law that is on the books here in New York State catches a few drivers by surprise and may lead to an expensive ticket.
When you are cleaning the snow off the car, make sure that your license plate is visible and clear as well. According to a post from the AAA, "You are also required to keep your license plate clearly viewable".
Here in New York State, there is a law that requires a car or truck to have TWO license plates; one on the front and one on the back of the vehicle.
Make sure you have all the safety essentials in the car this winter to safe and warm in the event that you are stuck somewhere for an extended period of time.
