There are so many people that are mad in New York State over a proposed tax credit that would allow people with dogs and cats to get some serious tax money starting this year.

The new idea is a proposed bill called the State Pet Tax credit and owners of pets could write off things such as medical and veterinarian expenses as well as everyday expenses such as pet food collars harnesses and other pet supplies.

Before we go any further it is important to note that the total tax credit is $450, and if it is approved you would be able to do that for up to two pets.

Now for the reason that people are mad in New York State there are two reasons:

First, people in New York are mad because of course people will think it is ridiculous that there are going to be credits for just owning a pet and that is a choice on how to live your life. Many are claiming that there should not be financial gains from owning a pet.

Secondly people who are in favor of this New York State tax credit are very upset because it does not apply to every single pet. Only dogs and cats are allowed to be included in this New York State pet tax credit. It is important that this law is not even a law yet and is simply in committee as a proposed bill.

There are only two ways that you can write off your pet for tax credits legally as of right now.

As of right now the only way that you can write off certain animal tax credits on your taxes is if you are fostering for a charity of some sort or if you have a certified service animal and you can deduct the service animal as medical expenses in New York State
