Have you seen the the latest edition of I Love New York signs? They have been in the news as Federal Highway officials claim that they may have been placed along the Thruway illegally. Some that were damaged in the recent storms are being replaced!

With the winds and snow that we have had in New York over the past few weeks, some of the controversial signs have been damaged or knocked over. Even with the argument of their legality still going, the signs will be put back in place!

The Federal Highway Administration has threatened to pull funding to New York if there is no resolution over the signs. Replacing these damaged signs can't help New York's side of the story.

According to a story on NewsDay.com :

Their placement violates state and federal laws that say such sings along roadways are meant to help motorists navigate their trips not advertise, according to the Federal Highway Administration, which denied a 2013 DOT request to put them up. The signs also contain too much information, the FHA said, therefore are a distraction to drivers.

Eight signs are expected to be repaired or replaced along Thew New York State Thruway.

The Best Song About Signs

The argument over signs has a song spinning in my head today. From Five Man Electrical Band - Signs (1971). The song takes aim at those that put up signs to keep people out or as the lyrics state:

"And the sign says "Anybody caught trespassing will be shot on sight"
So I jumped the fence and I yelled at the house
Hey! What gives you the right!
To put up a fence and keep me out, or to keep Mother Nature in
If God was here, he'd tell it to your face, man, you're some kind of sinner"
