The NFL has hundreds if not thousands of rules, but somehow this age old practice is still allowed to happen.  It needs to change.

They have rules that have been implemented for player safety.  Most of those are pretty easy to understand.  There are rules that are meant to keep the game moving to make for a better experience for the viewer.  There are even rules that have to do with what a player can and cannot wear on the field.  Even those rules seem to make a little bit of sense when it comes to the product they want on the field.

But I cannot understand why they still have this rule and haven't changed it.

Can someone please explain why the NFL thinks it's a good idea to allow teams who have fired their coaches to interview other coaches on teams that are still in the playoffs?

It makes no sense.  Anyone who has ever been through an interview knows how much preparation goes into it.  You don't just walk in and have a quick conversation.  You need to have a plan.  You need to do research on the company (or team) that you're hoping to join.

All of that has to happen while they're making plans to take on some of the best teams in the league for the its highest honor - to win the Super Bowl.

The Buffalo Bills have been victims of this for the past couple of years and it's happening again this year.  Brian Daboll was one of the first that was highly sought out by other teams while trying to make a run at the Super Bowl.  Now it's happening again to their current offensive coordinator Joe Brady.

No, it's not just because it's happening to the Buffalo Bills.  The Detroit Lions are another team that has very highly sought out coordinators.  You have to believe that this is taking away from the time they have to prepare for the games ahead.

Everyone wants them to have the success that they deserve, but it feels unfair to them to ask them to try to prepare for both things at once.

The solution is simple.  Implement a coaching interview freeze on teams that are still in the playoffs until after they are eliminated, or the freeze happens for all coaches until after the Super Bowl has ended.  There are deadlines for player trades.  Why can't they do this with coaches too?
