A public service announcement went out today telling people to pick up their phones if you see "NYS Contact Tracing" show up.

The PSA is encouraging people to be aware who they may have been in contact with in order to stop the spread of COVID19.  The tweet was sent from Governor Andrew Cuomo.

Based on the comments from people on twitter, they are not thrilled with the idea of answering this call.

According to the NY State Contact Tracing page, here's how the contact tracing process works:

1.  If you test positive for COVID19, a contact tracer will contact you to help provide resources to you while you are in quarantine such as help getting groceries or household supplies, child care, medical care or supplies.

2.  With your help, they will try to identify people who you may have been in contact with recently and they will then try to reach out to those people to let them know that you may have been in contact with someone who has tested positive.

3.  They will then ask the person who may have been in contact with a positive person to stay home.  That way, if you do become sick, you will not have spread it with others unknowingly.

4.  They add that they will not share your name with anyone.  It will be "treated as a private medical record."

The call will show on your caller ID.  It will display as “NYS Contact Tracing” (518-387-9993).

Will you answer if that call comes to your phone?
