October 1st Is A Big Day For Deer Hunters In WNY
The summer was hot and dry in Western New York and September has been pretty darn warm and humid as well. But what will Mother Nature bring for the opening day of deer season?
The 2018 archery season will begin at daybreak on Monday October 1st and the weather won't be horrible. I would prefer it to be a bit more crisp and cold than what is predicted.
The National Weather Service is calling for overnight lows in the 50's and 70's with sunshine on Monday. Archery season doesn't really get "good" until around Halloween when the days are shorter and the leaves are almost completely off the trees. True, many hunters are pretty successful early in the month. But the "rut" ramps up right around the end of October and the first week in November.
The deadline to get your doe permit is also on Monday. If you would like to apply, the time is running out.
Going out Monday? Good luck and be safe.
