Pat Sajak Hosted Wheel of Fortune Drunk

Pat Sajak admits there were times in the early days of Wheel of Fortune that he would host the show drunk.  He says he was young and immature and had a lot of time on his hands between shows so he and Vanna White would head over to a nearby restaurant that had great margaritas and "have two or three or six."  When they got back to tape the other shows they'd have trouble recognizing the alphabet.

The 65-year old Sajak says in the early days of the show contestants would play for cheesy prizes.  The stakes were a lot lower.  And there was a lot of down time.  They'd record a week or two weeks of shows at a time and while the crew would change the set bringing in new grand prize cars and boats and other props they'd sometimes have a couple of hours before they'd resume shooting.  Instead of just sitting around, he and Vanna would head out.
