Proposal To Split California Into 2 States

We have had 50 states for over 50 years.  What if we went to 51 states?  Think about it.  Every current U.S. flag would become obsolete and have to be replaced.  I wonder how much that would cost? A politician in California has proposed taking 13 counties in the state and forming a new state called "South California". This idea has actually been kicked around in California for over 100 years.  Many residents have talked for years about splitting the state either in half or into thirds. What do you think? Should California be split in two states?
