Can We Kiss Robocalls Goodbye In New York State?
There was always a rule in our home when I was a kid; no one calls the house or uses the phone before 10am on the weekends. That rule is still in the back of my mind when I read a text from a friend or family member before I even have my first cup of coffee most days. What would my father have thought about phones buzzing or ringing with mindless chatter so early? Clearly things have changed in our home over the years.
But hearing from a friend or family member at a random hour doesn't seem to sting as bad or tick you off as much as when a call comes from a robocaller! The days of seeing unfamiliar numbers pop up or leave voice mails about buying extended warranties may be over in New York State.
According to reports, New York State Attorney General Letitia James has joined a coalition of attorneys general to form the Anti-Robocall Litigation Taskforce, which will investigate and take legal action against the telecommunications companies who are responsible for enabling foreign robocalls.
THANK GOODNESS! It can happen at all hours of the day and it's always blah blah blah. How often does it happen that the person on the other end of the robocall can't pronounce your name or perhaps is trying to scam money out of you for something you don't need? I'm not the kind of guy who is looking to add more laws to the already full book. But my father was ahead of his time with his rules regarding calls at all hours of the day and night.
