Severe Thunderstorms Possible For Western New York
We have heard the term so much over the last six or so hours — “it’s too hot.”
Wednesday had temperatures in the high 80’s and even the low 90’s across Western New York and the rest of the state for that matter.
A heat advisory is still in effect until the evening and if you’re going to be outside the rest of the day, make sure to drink plenty of liquids and don’t leave your pets out for an extended period of time in the heat.
With the excessive heat, means we have the threat of pop-up thunderstorms, which are the most active this time of year (July and August).
Western New York and the City of Buffalo will have to deal with the threat of severe thunderstorms on Wednesday night, as systems move through the region.
According to The Weather Channel, there is a 60-80 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms from 9 pm to 2 am for the City of Buffalo and the potential for severe thunderstorms as well.
That means heavy downpours, damaging winds and hail are possible with these passing storms. This timing is also not ideal, as many of us will be sleeping or just about to go to sleep when these thunderstorms will sweep across Western New York.
I’m just hoping the storms aren’t bad enough to scare my dog, who cannot stand heavy thunderstorms. The sound of thunder and heavy rain are not a favorite of my dog…
