You may have seen the little free libraries all over Western New York where you can borrow books for free.  Someone came up with an alternative for winter fun!

If you've never seen the little free libraries, there are locations all over the place.  There's actually a map where you can find one near you.  If there's not one near you, you can start one!  The idea is that you can either take a book, or leave one for other people to read.  You read it, then return it for someone else to use.  This way, people always have the opportunity to read something new and share what they love with others...for free.

Someone in the city of good neighbors has decided to share that same spirit with some winter activities with their own "Little Free Sled Library."  This one was in Shoshone Park over on Hertel

The sign says that it was created by The Tool Library and University Heights Collaborative. The Tool Library is a concept that is a lot like the book library.  Often you'll find that you need a specific tool for a project that you might not need any other time.  Instead of going out and spending money on the tool, you can "borrow" it from the tool library instead.

When we were kids, we always had tons of sleds to use in the winter, but it's not necessarily like that anymore. It feels crazy to say in Buffalo, but not everyone has sleds for kids to have fun with.  A lot of people don't want to take up the space in their house or garage with something that they might only use a few times a year.  This seems brilliant to me and I'm surprised no one has thought of it before now.  Why not give them a little extra to play with so that everyone can enjoy the snow and get out of their house for a little physical activity?
