Steel Magnolia’s Meghan Linsey Covers One Republic’s ‘Counting Stars’ in Quirky Video
Meghan Linsey, one half of country duo Steel Magnolia, is going solo, and she gives fans a taste of what's to come with a cover and quirky video of OneRepublic's 'Counting Stars.'
The singer channels a few different looks in the cover video, ranging from a vibrantly bright blue wardrobe, complete with royal blue lipstick and a plunging halter, a sweet floral ensemble and a '20s-style, glammed up look complete with long red gloves and a scarlet headdress.
Her sultry voice and platinum hair lend an interesting twist to her take on OneRepublic's hit. Although the songstress is known for her part in Steel Magnolia with partner Joshua Scott Jones, she's equally strong on her own, hitting the notes and projecting a confident presence onscreen.
"I wasn't planning on putting anything official out until next year, especially a cover," says Linsey. "But, I just loved the OneRepublic song 'Counting Star'" so much and wanted to record my own version."
She went into the studio with producer Tyler Cain to put her spin on the tune, with the intent of making a simple cover video to accompany the recording. But her director friend Josh Marx showed up to help out. She said,"He brought some of his equipment and before we knew it there were three outfit changes and a full production ensued."
She hasn't completely called it quits with Steel Magnolia, and has mentioned she's open to anything in the future, but the YouTube description does mention it's largely in the backdrop.
"It's been so refreshing to be able to make music with freedom and without expectations," admits the singer. "The new music I've been working on is an authentic, true representation of who I am. I can't wait to share that with the fans!"
Linsey's certainly shown fans a fun, eccentric side of her with this cover and video, and it will be interesting to see where her path leads!
