For many, the second Monday in October has meant a day off from work and school in observation of Columbus Day. Many history books claim that Christopher Columbus discovered America in 1492 when he "sailed the ocean blue." Columbus Day was proclaimed a national holiday in 1934 by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
Columbus Day will be on Monday, October 14 this year. We know this holiday is really only important to a few lucky people who actually have the day off, but maybe you'll choose to take it upon yourself to make it a long weekend (come on, we know you want to).
