Sad to hear that the inventor of the Etch a Sketch passed away. Frenchman Andre Cassagnes came up with the idea in his garage in the early 1950’s. Originally known as the The Magic Screen – it was displayed at a toy fair in Nuremberg, Germany in 1959 and it was the president of the Ohio Art Company who paid $25,000 for the rights to what eventually became the Etch a Sketch.
It’s no secret. The National Museum of Play is one of my favorite places in Rochester to visit with my family. Now there’s a new reason to visit. They’ve inducted new toys into the National Toy Hall of Fame.
There are people who have held on to some of the toys they had as kids. I'm one of them. Some of those toys could be worth a lot of money these days. But would you part with those toys if someone offered you enough money?
