Who doesn't love surprises?  The people who find out what gender their baby is before it is born don't like surprises.  Now, there's a new way to have all of your loved ones find out if you're going to have a boy or a girl at the same time you do without letting them all cram into the delivery room.

It's called a "Gender Reveal Party" and they're beginning to catch on.  Here's how they go about it:

When the expecting couple goes to have their sonogram done, they have the nurse facilitating it write down the baby's sex and seal it in an evelope.  That envelope is then given to a baker who makes a cake that is either pink or blue (made with food coloring I assume).  The cake is then iced with a neutral color.

The guests all come to the party wearing either pink or blue depending on whether they think the baby will be a boy or a girl.  This is when the baby pools can be done.  Then at the midpoint of the party the cake is cut and everyone is let in on the secret at the same time.

What do you think about the Gender Reveal party?  I think it's a good idea if you want to know the sex of your baby.    My wife and I chose to wait to find out for both of our kids and I'm so happy that we did.  It's like Christmas waiting to find out what you're going to get.

However, I can see the logic behind finding out too.  If you're a planner, and you want to get the nursery all set, it makes sense.
