You know what they say: The more things change, the more they stay the same.

To me, that's what's so funny about comparing the above photo of Main Street, taken sometime in the 1960s, to the photo of Main Street below, taken earlier this week. You can pick out a lot of things that have stayed the same -- many of the buildings, the light poles (seriously!)...heck, there's even people walking around (guess I picked a "busy" time to take the picture)!

We live in a city where people often worry that we're demolishing perfectly good, usable, historical buildings, so I suppose seeing how similar Main Street looks should make us feel good. And yet, a lot has changed: The businesses are all different, there's traffic on Main Street (soon to happen again!), and everything generally looks more...I don't know, alive? Like a city should look?

So, small victory, I suppose.
