Western New York is slowly reopening week by week.  Today, we got the good news that three counties in the area will be entering phase 3 on Friday.

Governor Cuomo made the announcement during his daily briefing today that Orleans, Genesee, and Wyoming County will be going into phase 3 tomorrow (6/12).That means that restaurants and personal care services are permitted to reopen with restrictions.

More Western New York counties could enter that phase as early as next week according to WIVB.

The governor still continued to warn people to take caution as the state begins to open back up and that our decreasing numbers are a result of people's action.

This weekend, we should see some lower than normal temperatures so pools shouldn't be a huge issue.  However, next week we will be back up into the 80s.  What does that mean about pools and playgrounds?

He says he will leave that up to local governments to make the decisions on those and encourages them to use their best judgement when deciding whether to open them, or leave them closed to the public.

"They have to use their judgment here. They should be looking at the positives, see where those positives are coming from," Cuomo said. "Everybody wants to swim, I understand. Everybody doesn't want to see a spike in COVID again. Sometimes 'yes' is not the right answer."

What will restaurants be encouraged to do when they do reopen?

Limit capacity to half of the maximum occupancy (not counting employees).

Tables inside and out must be spaced six feet apart and limited to 10 people max per table.

Staff will wear masks at all times.

Customers can take off their masks while seated.

NYS also recommends restaurants provide single-use, disposable menus or display menus in a common place. Restaurants should limit the use of devices like buzzers to alert customers that seating or an order is ready.
