50,000 Ticket Operation in ONE Weekend from New York State Troopers
New York State Governor's Office issued a major ticket operation that ticketed hundreds of thousands of drivers. The Governor's Traffic Safety Committee recently did a sting and here is how many tickets were given out by the number.
TOTAL TICKETS that were given out = 50,621 tickets
- IMPAIRED DRIVING = 1,235 tickets
- SPEEDING = 8,152 tickets
- DISTRACTED DRIVING = 2,037 tickets
- SEATBELT = 1,321 tickets
- MOVE OVER LAW = 428 tickets
- OTHER = 37,448 tickets
When did they give out all of these tickets in New York State?
The sting that happened in New York State happened around the time of the Super Bowl. The goal was to catch anyone who under the influence, speeding, or driving aggressively that was around Super Bowl weekend. Of course, they picked one of the biggest weekends for gatherings and potentially drinking.
There are a lot of people mad on social media about all of the tickets that were given out from New York State troopers during the sting. People were calling the operation a 'trap' or a 'money grab' and a lot of people had not a lot of good things to say, but isn't this a good thing that they are keeping our road ways safe? I get it--there could be times where maybe it was borderline offense like speeding and MAYBE they could have let you go, but the point of the whole thing is that they keep you and everyone else on the roads safe. According to WIVB:
All of the arrests and citations issued over this period were 100% preventable,” said DMV Mark Schroeder, who chairs the GTSC. “These campaigns serve as a reminder that if you choose to be one of the thousands of drivers that make poor decisions behind the wheel, there will be consequences.”
