Valuable Fan-Favorite Running Back Returning To The Bills
There were more question marks in the Buffalo Bills running back room than people thought. With multiple players becoming free agents, who would they keep?
The Bills have found a star in running back James Cook. At the end of the 2023 season, the run game was finally starting to see an uptick. It's something that had many analysts believing that it was the X-factor that the Bills were missing to help get them "over the hump" as we heard so many people saying.
Why are there questions in the running back room?
The running backs that we started the 2023 season were James Cook, Damien Harris, Latavius Murray, fullback Reggie Gilliam, and Ty Johnson. Harris was injured early in the season. Latavius Murray and Ty Johnson were both on one-year deals. Leonard Fournette was signed late in the year but was cut before the season was even over.
That means that after the season was over, the only running backs that the Bills had signed for 2024 were James Cook and Reggie Gilliam.
They extended a futures contract to Darrynton Evans to come back also.

The Bills are re-signing Ty Johnson
Jeremy Fowler of ESPN is reporting that the Bills will be re-signing Ty Johnson.
Johnson came to the Bills after a stint with the New York Jets and turned out to be a great complement to James Cook near the end of the year last year. Where Cook seemed to be more of a finesse running back, Johnson was a powerful straight-ahead runner.
At this point, there aren't any details about the new deal with Johnson.
