It's been a long time since many of us were in Canada. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused many hardships, but the inability for most to cross into Canada is definitely one of the biggest; especially for those who have loved ones who reside or work in Ontario, here in Western New York.

As many of us try to get back to normal and more and more people get vaccinated, the question of when the border between the U.S. and Canada will fully reopen lingers. However, there's also the question of whether there will be added necessities when you cross the border.

According to WKBW, Canadian Health Minister Patty Hajdu was a recent guest on a Canadian radio show and talked about the very real possibility of a 'vaccine passport' for international travel.

Absolutely," Hajdu said. "First of all, Canadians need to be able to have the right kind of certification for international travel.”

Right now, there hasn't been anything decided, however, discussions are underway in regards to vaccine passports and that could impact the U.S.-Canadian border.

Roughly one-third of the U.S. population has been fully vaccinated, while only 2.5 percent of Canadians have been fully vaccinated.

Judging by the way things are going, it could be a very long time before we are back to normal, in regards to the border being fully reopened with no restrictions and added guidelines.
