There is a concern growing in Central New York State about the quality of the water that people are drinking and using in their homes.

The summer is flying by and many kids are heading to camps. In most cases, that means filling up the water bottle every morning to make sure that the kids stay hydrated during the hot weather that we are experiencing across New York State. But what do you know about the water you are drinking or the water your family is using?

When I see reports like this, it makes me wonder about the quality of the water that we are drinking and using in our home in Western New York.

According to multiple reports, there is outrage this week over the water supply in the Syracuse area of New York State. Families for Lead Freedom are concerned about potentially high lead levels in the city's water supply.

CNY Central reports that: "the petition requests that the EPA use its emergency powers under the Safe Drinking Water Act to force the city to declare a State of Emergency.."

At our home, we have been using bottled water for baby bottles, coffee and cooking since our first child was born 9 years ago. I am old school and drink from the tap often. However, after hearing the things my wife had learned about the water supply and knowing that our home it old and the pipes are also old, I feel like making sure our kids have the best water possible and to error on the side of caution is a good idea.
