Here’s Why why ‘Die Hard’ is The Greatest Christmas Movie
If you sort through the TV, or streaming services at this time of the year here in Western New York, you'll notice that there is no shortage of Holiday Movies to watch. How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Home Alone, Christmas Vacation, A Christmas Story, and Die Hard all seem to be on a never-ending loop at this time of the year.
What's that you say? Die Hard isn't a Christmas Movie.
So, you're one of those people huh? Ok, I will break it down to you in the simplest terms that I can. Let's take the Holiday Classic 'Home Alone' as a baseline for what is a Christmas Movie. We can all agree that that one passes the holiday classics test, no questions asked, right?
Good, let's move on.
There is a scene in Home Alone, with Kevin and the old man in a church. If you take that scene out of the movie, 'Home Alone' and 'Die Hard' have the EXACT SAME PLOT.
Allow me to elaborate:
Both movies start with a Family member(s) going on a trip for Christmas.
Then, just as things get going, the bad guy(s) disrupt the holiday festivities
Next, our hero fights them off with a sh*t ton of violence.
Once the bad guys have been defeated, our hero is reunited with family at the end to celebrate Christmas.
So, in closing. if “Home Alone” is a Christmas movie.....
Yippee Ki Yay!!
To showcase my points, I now present you with the trailers for the films.
First, 'Home Alone';
And now, the trailer for 'Die Hard'.
Well, at least the one that they should have used...
John McClain just takes things to a whole new level. It's the same story, but it happens 35 stories up. The film "Die Hard' also features one hell of a holiday score with: “Winter Wonderland", “Ode to Joy”, “Let it Snow!", and the Run-DMC holiday classic “Christmas in Hollis" either on the soundtrack or making appearances in the film.
And to put a cherry on top, Argile the chauffer ends the movie with the line "If this is their idea of Christmas, I gotta be here for New Year's".
Next, in my continuing struggle to change the minds of the non-believers, I will provide 5 counterpoints to an article that I recently read, "5 Reasons why Die Hard is Not a Christmas Movie"
Stay tuned, and "Welcome to the party, Pal".
