Dale Mussen

I've been doing this radio thing for 40 years now. I've been a part of the morning show since 1986. Ever since I was a kid, I've loved to read. I read the newspaper each day nearly cover to cover, nearly everything except the classifieds. I’m a lifelong Bills and Sabres fan and I've been a regular in the press box of both teams since 1979. You’d think in all that time one of those teams would win a championship! Four cracks at it for the Bills and two for the Sabres and they came up short each time. I was born in Buffalo and raised in Tonawanda. I went to college at Niagara University and since Clay went to Canisius, we get to tease each other twice each year when the Eagles and Griffs meet to play basketball. I began buying records when I was just a kid and have held on to that vinyl all these years. I have a lot of old 45’s in their original sleeves. I bet a lot of millennials have no idea what I’m talking about. Another thing I began doing when I was a kid was riding a bike and I haven’t given that up either. In addition to radio another thing I enjoy doing is officiating high school football. I’m entering my 32nd year doing that.

Dale Rappels Down a 50-Foot Wall at Camp

When I got to the top of the 50-foot tower, Padraic, the young man in charge of the COPE (Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience) program at Camp Schoellkopf asked me if I was afraid of heights.  I told him I wasn't.  I was just afraid of falling.  He assured me l wouldn't.

Dale at the Canal Fest Parade

The 35th annual Canal Fest of the Tonawandas is the largest celebration of its kind anywhere along the Erie Canal.  It's an 8-day event each July with rides, music, games, food, a craft show, car cruise, a bike cruise, a 4-mile run and a parade.  Who doesn't love a parade?  People set out their chairs the day before to claim the best viewing spots along the two-mile length of the parade.  And it last about two hours.

The Lockport Locks – You’ve Really Got to See It

"Low bridge everybody down, low bridge 'cause we're coming to a town. Yes, you'll always know your neighbor, you'll always know your pal if you ever navigated on the Erie Canal."  Maybe it's because I grew up in the Tonawandas not far from the Erie Canal, but I learned the words to that song when I was a kid and it's stayed with me all of these years.

Positive Reviews for the Italian Festival

After many years on Hertel Avenue, organizers of Buffalo's Italian Heritage Festival decided it was time for a change.  Complaints from neighbors, gang activity, parking problems all were adding up so this year the annual festival was moved to the outer harbor and most people I talked to liked the change.

Mayor Proclaims Daniel Suarez Day In Buffalo

One of the real pleasant surprises in NASCAR's Monster Energy Cup series is the great season that Mexican-born Daniel Suarez is putting together.  The rookie driver has four Top-10 finishes this season including a season and career high 6th place finish at Dover in early June.  Despite being unable to win a race yet this season he stands 18th in the driver standings, but only 45 points out of the 16th and final playoff spot entering this week's race at New Hampshire.
