Smoke detectors can save a life and many homes are with out them...or don't have ones that are operating up to snuff.  In a way to combat that problem, the City of Buffalo is distributing free smoke detectors along with batteries as a way to mark October as "Fire Prevention Month."  The city will host open house events at various firehouses around Buffalo.  The goal is to educate and equip people with the essentials in case of a fire.  The next open house in October 15th at Main and Mercer.
