Today is the day.

The legal tampering period for free agency across the NFL starts at noon today. That means any pending free agent is allowed to talk and negotiate a new contract with a new team, although they are not permitted to sign any deal until the league year begins on Thursday.

The Bills made huge strides to become cap compliant last Wednesday, releasing Jordan Poyer, Mitch Morse, Tre'Davious White, Deonte Harty and Siran Neal.

They also restructured the contract of Von Miller and signed quarterback Mitch Trubisky and punter Matt Haack. Now, they make another move just before free agency begins to get even more under the salary cap.

According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, Dawson Knox has agreed to a restructured deal to save the Bills even more cap space.

Knox's cap hit in 2024 was $14.3-14.4 million. This likely means his yearly money was converted to a signing bonus, which would save the Bills roughly $5 million.

Spotrac currently has the Bills at $12.5 million in cap space. If they restructure Josh Allen, they would have over $35 million in cap space. That would be more than enough money to sign your draft picks and go after a handful of free agents.

Just 10 days ago, the Bills were $41 million over the salary cap. It's crazy just how quickly a team can get under the cap, although general manager Brandon Beane opted to release some long-time veterans to get under the cap, which is tough now but a better long-term plan than simply restructuring five or six contracts.

We will see what happens the rest of Monday and this week.
