One Buffalo resident turned to Reddit after attending the voting polls on Election Day, asking for fellow Buffalonians’ advice as to whether or not they encountered something illegal in the voting booths.

This Reddit user posted a picture of what she received on Election Day:

A few Reddit contributors added their thoughts to the thread on how they felt about one mayoral candidate’s choice to hand out stamps at the polling locations.

Can You Hand Out Stamps At An Election Polling Location?

Here's what Reddit had to say.

According to New York State Election Law, voters are allowed to use a stamp for a write-in candidate on a ballot. Stickers, on the other hand, are strictly not allowed on any election ballot ever.

The reason that rubber stamps are accepted, but stickers are not is because stickers can get caught on the ballot reader since they protrude off the paper just enough to potentially be unreadable.

Next time you see stamps handed out for a political candidate, you can breathe a sigh of relief because it is in fact legal.
