If you were listening to country music in the 90's, then you must remember Doug Stone. Born Douglas Jackson Brooks, he changed his name in the late 80's to Doug Stone so he would not be confused with Garth Brooks and Kix Brooks.  He made his debut on the Billboard Country Singles chart back in 1990 with his tune, "I'd Be Better Off In A Pine Box". He went on to have a number of hits throughout the 90's. His career began to stall a bit after he suffered a heart attack and stroke in the late 1990's. He also survived a plane crash in 1999 in Chicago. His troubles did not end there. In 2005, he was sentenced to six months in jail for failure to pay alimony and child support. He was also arrested in 2009 for a domestic dispute involving his 22 year old son.

Listen this Saturday 6am to 10am as I spotlight some of the great music of Doug Stone on Wide Open County. I will be taking your requests and dedications as well at 644-WYRK and toll-free at 1-800-696-WYRK.
