The rule is: No sharing food to avoid issues with other student's allergies.

That's the reason they don't allow students to share meals or switch in this California school district.

Now, what do you do if you're 13 year-old and you see a fellow student hungry and give him some of your food? Dang if you do and dang if you don't right? Well, that 13-year-old got detention.

Kyle Bradford, shared his chicken burrito with a friend who didn't like the cheese sandwich.When he was caught by a school employee, he was written up and given detention.

, Superintendent of the school, Tom Barnett said:

We have a policy that prohibits students from exchanging meals. Of course if students are concerned about other students not having enough to eat, we would definitely want to consider that, but because of safety and liability we cannot allow students to actually exchange meals."
Kyle's mom, Sandy doesn't agree with the punishment, but also has not fought it. Sandy said:
By all means the school can teach them math and the arithmetic and physical education. But when it comes to morals and manners and compassion, I believe it needs to start at home with the parent."
