It’s time once again for our Hometown Hero, brought to you by Batavia Downs Gaming with help from our friends at WNY Heroes who help us with our nominations every week.  This Week’s Hometown Hero is orignally from Buffalo, NY.  It's United States Army Sgt. David Cross!

Sgt. Cross served in the Army for 10 years from 2002-2012.  He was sent on

3 deployments (2 Afghanistan, 1 Iraq).  He served as Airborne Infantry.

From 2003-2004 he went to Afghanistan with the 501st parachute infantry regiment where he was a designated marksman and gunner. In 2005-2006 he deployed to Iraq with the 10th mountain.  While there he was a team leader, gunner and door gunner of a Huey helicopter for some missions. From 2009-2010 David deployed to Afghanistan again where he was a squad leader and Stryker vehicle commander.  Unfortunately that was where his career was coming to an end due to an injury after being hit by a 1000lb IED. David is now a purple heart recipient who enjoys his 3 kids ages 10, 8, and 6.

Once again we cannot say thank you enough to the brave men and women who fight so bravely for our freedom. This week, we are proud to call Army Sgt. David Cross our Hometown Hero of the week.

If you would like to see a picture of David, get to WYRK.com!  While you’re there, nominate your own Hometown Hero. We like to honor both active duty and veteran heroes from right here in Western New York.

Thanks once again to Army Sgt. David Cross, our Hometown Hero of the week!
