November 30, 2012 Dale Earnhardt, Junior won his 10th straight NASCAR Most Popular Driver award on Thursday and that moves him into a tie with Bill Elliott for winning the award most consecutive times. Good for him. Nice guy. But I’ve always scratched my head over why he’s so popular. Is it because he’s a great driver? Hardly. Let’s look at the numbers.
October 26, 2012 Dale Earnhardt, Junior has been cleared to race again this weekend at Martinsville after sitting out the last two races because of concussion concerns. He ran over a hundred laps in a test session at a track in Georgia on Monday. After an evaluation the following day he was given medical clearance. He hasn’t had any headaches since last Friday. There haven’t been any other symptoms, so he’s good to go. Because he was forced to miss the last two races, he’s last in the Sprint Cup Chase standings, 122 points back of leader Brad Keselowski.
Dale Earnhardt Jr., who missed the last two races in Charlotte and Kansas due to a concussion, will be back behind the wheel of the #88 Chevrolet this Sunday in Martinsville.

April 10, 2011 Another driver besides Dale Earnhardt, Junior who hadn’t won in a long time finally did Saturday night at Texas Motor Speedway. Matt Kenseth finally made it back to victory lane after a dominating performance leading 169 of 334 laps at the mile and a half track. His margin of victory was an incredible 8.3 seconds. It’s his 19th career victory, but first since February of 2009 to end a winless streak that had stretched to 76 races. He won the 2009 Daytona 500 and won again the following week in California, but nothing since.
