Today we remember a Hometown Hero who has paid the ultimate sacrifice for his country.  Our Hometown Hero, originally from Newfane, NY is Army SPC Christopher Heinz.Tragically, Christopher drowned during an exercise in Ft. Hood Texas last July while training for the Sapper leadership program. According to the nomination, Chris joined the army to find his niche in life. He was soon recognized for his strong leadership skills and planned on attending classes in the fall to become an officer. During the short time he served, Chris was respected and loved by his fellow soldiers. In his nomination, his aunts mention:

What we will miss most about Chris is his beautiful smile, his kind and loving spirit and his willingness to do anything for his family and friends. Chris was truly an "AMERICAN HERO" who sacrificed his life for his country and will be sadly missed by all. He made his family so Proud.

So today, we are proud to remember and honor Specialist Christopher Heinz as our Hometown Hero and we thank his family for their sacrifice for our country as well.

If you would like to remember or honor someone who is currently serving our country or has served in the past, click the button below. We will choose a new Hometown Hero each Friday. If their name is chosen, we will not only feature them on WYRK.com, but we’ll be sure to thank them for their service on the air and dedicate the first song on Noon Tunes to them.

Once again, thank you to SPC Christopher Heinz, our Hometown Hero of the week!
