2 New Holidays Added to School Calendars in New York State
There is a brand new holiday that most school districts are taking off for this year i 2025. Kids will get off of school on January 29, 2025 this year as most districts will recognize this holiday.
The kids will get off from school for the Lunar New Year on January 29th, a week after kids have off for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
What is the Lunar New Year?
It is the day that starts the first moon which kicks off the 'new year' in most cultures. It is a massive holiday for billions of people across the globe.
It is the most important holiday in China, and it is also widely celebrated in South Korea, Vietnam, and countries with a significant overseas Chinese population", according to the National Museum of Asian Art.
There are at least 3 new holidays that kids will get off for most districts in New York and you may not have ever heard of them before.
The kids and teachers will get off on these 3 days off and they started these new days off in 2025. All 3 of these will be recognized by a ton of New York State holidays:
- Diwali (November 1)
- January 29, Asian Lunar New Year
- June 6, Eid al-Adh (mid June)
Some parents are not thrilled with another holiday being added to the school year for 2025 as you can imagine it is not always easy to find child care, especially after the kids have off for Martin Luther King Jr. Day the day before. Most school districts in New York State will have a 'winter break' coming up in February as well.
