3 NYC Subway Workers Create Hidden ‘Man Cave’ Under Grand Central Station
We've all fantasized about having a secret place to go at work where you can hide or relax a bit.
These guys actually did it.
The Associated Press reports three Metro Transportation Authority workers have been suspended after their unauthorized hidden hang out was located.
The room was outfitted with a flat-screen television, futon, refrigerator, and microwave. Wooden cabinets were built to conceal the amenities in the makeshift "man cave."
“Many a New Yorker has fantasized about kicking back with a cold beer in a prime piece of Manhattan real estate — especially one this close to good transportation,” MTA Inspector General Carolyn Pokorny said in a news release.
“But few would have the chutzpah to commandeer a secret room beneath Grand Central Terminal.”
The three workers allegedly used the room to "hang out and get drunk and party," according to the AP.
The AP reports the discovery resulted from an investigation began after receiving an anonymous tip in February 2019 of the "man cave," which was located off a storage area under Track 12 at Grand Central Terminal.
MTA officials explained the hideaway presents a fire hazard. In case of a rescue, workers would have difficulty accessing an unmapped room in an emergency.
