Buffalo’s Version Of The 9-9-9 Challenge
The 9-9-9 challenge sounds pretty awful, but if we're being honest, it also sounds like something that people in Buffalo would love.
Have you heard of the 9-9-9 challenge?
Scrolling through X today, I saw a post from a professional football player asking anyone if they had tried the 9-9-9 challenge. Because it came from a former player, I assumed it might have something to do with football, so I immediately looked into it. It turns out, it doesn't have anything to do with football. It's a baseball thing, but it kind of felt like it was custom-made for Buffalo sports fans.
What is the 9-9-9 challenge?
The 999 challenge is a simple concept. It involves eating nine hot dogs and drinking nine beers throughout the nine innings of a baseball game. To make it more "Buffalo", we would have to make sure they were Sahlen's hot dogs, not the tiny Ball Park style hot dogs that some stadiums serve. It makes sense to eat Sahlen's Hot Dogs at Sahlen Park anyway.
In the back of my mind, I thought, "I think I could do that." Then immediately thought, "Why would I want to do that?"
I'd imagine most people want to do it just to say that they did it but it seems a little more complicated than people think.
Some things to keep in mind
If you do end up trying to complete this challenge and you want to be successful, something to keep in mind is that some baseball stadiums often stop selling beer at a certain point in the game. So if you're going to get those last three or four beers in, you might have to buy them all at once towards the end of the game. That's going to change the challenge a little bit. By the ninth inning, you're drinking warm beer.
It's not going to be cheap either. What's the last time you bought a hot dog and a beer at a stadium?
Also, as mentioned in the video above, you're going to want to make sure you have a designated driver to get you home. Don't get in the car to drive after all of that.
Has anybody tried this challenge? Is it something that And how poorly did it end for you?
