A New Football Program Coming To New York College
High school football athletes from Western New York and from across New York State will have another option to play at the next level.
Hilbert College announced this week that the college will launch a football program in 2022. Football along with Women's Ice Hockey and Men's and Women's track and field will be added to the college's athletics department.
The Hilbert College football team will begin to play in Division III and will be the 2nd D3 football program in Erie County. The team will play their home games at St. Francis high school while the football complex on the Hilbert campus is being constructed.
It will also be somewhat of a homecoming for the first head coach in Hilbert College football history. The college announced that former St. Francis standout and former NFL quarterback Jim Kubiak will lead the Hawks.
Kubiak played at the college level for Navy and then spent time playing on several NFL teams during training camp including being part of the NY Jets practice squad for two seasons. He also played in NFL Europe.
Kubiak also has coaching experience, he served as the Offensive Coordinator/ Quarterbacks Coach at Mansfield University from 2017 until 2018. In the AFL, he spent time with the Georgia Force as Director of Football Operations and the Philadelphia Soul as Offensive Coordinator.
Kubiak also works with local high school quarterbacks with his Western New York Quarterback Academy.
With the addition of football, women's ice hockey, and track and field next year, Hilbert College now offers 9 sports for men and 9 sports for women.
