If you or someone you know has a high school student that is dedicated to the future of agriculture here in Western New York and the United States, there is a scholarship available for them and now is the time to apply.

According to the news release from the staff at the Erie County Fair:

The Erie County Agricultural Society Scholarship is limited to students who are pursuing an agriculture related career. Students must be enrolled or enrolling in a college or university and must be able to describe how their field of study will help them in their agricultural endeavors. Applicants must show participation in the Erie County Fair or Erie County Agricultural Society sponsored activities.

The pandemic forced the cancellation of most fairs in Western New York including the mighty Erie County Fair. The fair is the event that showcases the hard work that pour local farmers and the youth of agriculture put in all year round. The fairs give those who are not involved in agriculture on a daily basis a chance to see the products of the local farms.

For agriculture to survive, there needs to be education and dedication and that is the essence of the scholarship that is being offered. There is up to $25,000 available to interested students!

The application postmark deadline is April 2, 2021. Questions regarding the scholarship program should be directed to the Maria Lucero at 716-649-3900 ext. 6413.

I have had the pleasure of working along side of many of the farmers in our area at the fair in the past. I am always amazed by their pride and passion for the industry that is so vital and yet often taken for granted. We owe so much to the American farm families and as the saying goes "thank a farmer!"
