Congratulations to Amherst native and current Oakland A's catcher Jonah Heim who had his first career Major League Baseball hit yesterday.

Heim was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the 4th round of 2013 draft and played in the minor leagues before being traded to Tampa Bay in 2016 and then to Oakland in December of 2017.

After being drafted out of Amherst High School, Heim chose to skip playing at Michigan State to join the Orioles Gulf Coast Team. Heim was promoted to the Major Leagues this past Monday and made his first start yesterday.

He went 1 for 3 while also scoring a run.

Of course, not everything was picture perfect...check out how they spelled Amherst during his at-bat.

No matter how you spell it, it was a big night for Heim and for the Town of Amherst.
