AT&T Fined $60 Million, Misleading Customers With Unlimited Plans

Big news for customers of AT&T on Tuesday.

According to WIVB, AT&T will pay a $60 million fine to settle the government's allegation that it misled customers of its "unlimited-data plans" by slowing down service for heavy users.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) sued AT&T in 2014 for not making it clear to customers that if they used a certain amount of data, AT&T would slow down their data speeds so much that it practically made browsing the web impossible.

Here's where it could benefit you.

The FTC said that AT&T will automatically provide partial refunds to customers who signed up for unlimited plans before 2011.

Nowadays, AT&T says it may slow speeds down of unlimited plans after a certain amount of data is used.

There's no word on details of when or how those partial payouts for longtime AT&T customers will happen.
