Back To School Displays Surprisingly Already Up In Hamburg

It's hard to believe how quickly we move from one thing to the next in this country these days.  We're barely through Halloween and we're on to Christmas...now this!

We are just getting ready to go on our family summer vacation.  Last night we stopped into a dollar store to pick up some last-minute things for the trip like snacks and toiletries that we could buy cheap.

The second we walked in, my son turned to me with a look of disgust and said, "Dad, can you tell them to back off for just a minute?"

That's when I saw it.  It was a huge display with "Back To School" plastered all over it.

Now, I understand that retail has to be ahead of the rest of the world.  It's kind of like the military thing where they say "If you're early, you're on time.  If you're on time, you're late."  They're just trying to be the first to the game.  I don't blame them.  It's what retail has to do to survive.

But holy cow!  Here in New York, a lot of kids JUST took their last exam about two weeks ago.  Can we give them a minute to enjoy a little time off before we put it in their face that they have to head back to school?  It's like when you are on vacation and your boss calls on your first day off to ask if you'll check your email.  The last thing you want to do is think about work!

Enjoy your summer vacation kids...we'll see you in two weeks.

It wasn't an angry feeling but more of a "Wow!" feeling.  I don't remember ever seeing things like this when I was little.
