There is more and more to do at the Buffalo Waterfront these days, and this weekend you could be one of the first to ride the brand new carousel there.

It's called the Heritage Carousel and it opens up for the first time this weekend!

It's described as a vintage, park-style, menagerie carousel, that was custom designed and manufactured in 1924.

Where is it located?

You can find it right on Buffalo's Waterfront at:

1 Marine Drive
Buffalo, NY 14202
(716) 493-2110

But don't look for the horses when you come down.  You won't see them.  They're indoors to help protect them from the elements.  They built a structure entirely around the carousel.

When are they giving rides?

It opened up this weekend and runs straight through October 15th.  You can get a ride from 11am - 7pm every day.

Where did it come from?

This carousel has quite the history...and it started here in Western New York.  It's pretty cool to know that it was manufactured right here in 1924 by the Spillman Engineering Corporation of North Tonawanda, NY.  It was custom made for a man named Domenick De Angelis from Massachusetts.  It was his dream to own his own carnival and he saved his money just to buy this one in particular.  According to the Buffalo Heritage Carousel page, he used it for years at multiple places in Massachusetts.  In 1988 his family moved the carousel to a place called Carousel Works in Mansfield, Ohio with hopes to restore it and relocate it to a new location.

That has become a reality now as it's been moved back to Western New York and restored to be used by families from all over.
