Could the Bills-Jets 2023 Opener Get Delayed Tonight?
It's finally here.
The Buffalo Bills are back in regular season action in just a few hours, as they play the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium. Kickoff for Monday Night Football's opening game this season is slated for 8:20 pm.
The Bills and the Jets are looking to keep pace with the now 1-0 Miami Dolphins, who won their week 1 game against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, 36-34.
The game should be mostly rain free, at least by the second half, but it's the start of the game that has fans concerned, with a chance of very heavy thunderstorms during pregame warmup.
This is what the doppler looks like in the middle of pregame warmups tonight for the Bills and Jets.
That would indicate heavy rain and the potential of thunder and lightning. Rain is fine but if lightning strikes anywhere near MetLife Stadium, players, coaches and fans would need to seek shelter until it passes. It's not a certainty to happen but a possibility, based off forecasts and future radar.
If it does get delayed, hopefully it's just for 15-20 minutes. It's already going to be a late night for Bills fans, along with Jets fans; the game is likely to go until sometime after 11 pm without any potential delay.
Security got people off the field around 5 pm because of a pending thunderstorm, with a "seek shelter" alert. It's all about getting lucky and avoiding any lightning.
We shall see who comes out on top by midnight.
