The Buffalo Bills coaching and scouting staff are now in evaluation mode. They will evaluate the roster, including the coaching staff as they head into the off-season.

The next event for the Bills staff will be the Senior Bowl, which will be next weekend in Mobile, Alabama. After that, the NFL Scouting Combine at the end of February and beginning of March.

Bills fans are left with a bad taste in their mouth after the blowout loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Divisional round, which is the word that general manager Brandon Beane called it: "a blowout."

The 27-10 loss has caused many Bills fans and media members to look long and hard at what needs to be improved upon for 2023 and on the shortlist as been improvements at wide receiver.

Beane was asked about getting quarterback Josh Allen more help at wide receiver, after looking at the other teams left (the Bengals) and their weapons.

Beane said the Bengals are the beneficiary of their star quarterback playing on a rookie contract. Beane also said their star wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase is playing on a rookie contract. Tee Higgins is also playing on a rookie contract.

One comment that fans aren't thrilled with is Beane talking about how the Bengals got Chase.

"I don't wanna suck bad enough to get Ja'Marr Chase," said Beane.

Many Bills fans are asking for a better option for a seconds wide receiver, opposite Stefon Diggs. Nobody is expecting a Ja'Marr Chase, who was a top 5 draft selection.

Part of the reason the Bengals are so good on offense is because they have Tee Higgins, who could easily be a number one wide receiver on other teams. His presence and third receiver Tyler Boyd, helps free up space because teams can't just double Ja'Marr Chase.

Higgins was the 33rd overall selection in the 2020 NFL Draft. The Bills will pick 27th in the 2023 NFL Draft. That's what fans want, not Ja'Marr Chase, but Tee Higgins.

D.K. Metcalf was a second round pick. Justin Jefferson went in the late first round. Brandon Aiyuk was a late first round pick. Deebo Samuel and A.J. Brown were second round picks.

The Bills can get a second number one wide receiver in the late first or late second round. They don't need to draft one in the top 5.

Fans agreed.

Beane has done a lot of good things since 2017 but the Bills have to address the offense: wide receiver and offensive line. They need to make tough decisions on defense with Tremaine Edmunds and Jordan Poyer, which also includes Ed Oliver, as Beane said in his press conference they're expecting more of him in the fifth-year option.

Beane said they have to work under the cap, which is an issue in 2023. 100 percent agree but the Bills have to reallocate assets towards the defense, to the offense. Nobody is asking them to not pay Josh Allen, Stefon Diggs or Dion Dawkins; they're asking him to make upgrades by spending money elsewhere.
