Are “Buffalo Bills” Considered To Be Humans or Animals?
There was a post on social media lately that sparked some debate about The Buffalo Bills and what they actually are.
When you picture the mascot of the Buffalo Bills, do you think of them as humans or animals?
The debate started after a page on x posted something for fun. It was a "power ranking" of all the teams with animal mascots and essentially who would win if there was a fight. They did add at the bottom of the list that this assumes the fight happened on land. The Chicago Bears were at the top of the list. Are they the toughest animal of all the animals in the NFL? The Dolphins were at the bottom of the list. I'd agree with that. They had a separate list that assumed the fight happened in the water.
Naturally I jumped on as a Bills fan looking to see where they came in.
I guess I assumed that most people thought of Buffalo Bills as a buffalo. I mean, the logo on the helmet is a charging buffalo. The mascot is a blue buffalo. But do people really assume that a Buffalo Bill is a human?
I'm aware of how the name started in the 1960's when Ralph Wilson Jr. came up with it. He decided to name his team after Buffalo Bill Cody. But you don't see much of that when you go to the stadium. You don't see cowboys shooting things or using a lasso to bring something down. Still though, a Buffalo Bill is considered to be a human?
If the Buffalo Bills were considered to be animals, where do you think they would land on this power ranking?
